The Golden State Warriors agreed to one-year deals with free agents Brandon Williams and Georges Niang, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Williams, a guard, will sign for $2.6 million, while Niang, a forward, will sign for $3.9 million, with agents for both players confirming the terms to ESPN. The moves close out a stretch of role-player additions for Golden State as the roster takes shape ahead of training camp.
Williams spent the past three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 13 points and 3.9 assists in 66 games last season while playing 22.2 minutes a night. He is an undrafted 2021 prospect who has steadily carved out a backup ball-handling role. Niang, an 11-year veteran, last played for the Atlanta Hawks, where he averaged 12.1 points per game, and he is a career 40 percent three-point shooter. He missed all of the 2025-26 season because of injury. That makes this a bet on a healthy return to his career shooting numbers rather than a bet on recent form.
Both signings slot into a Warriors bench that already added Draymond Green’s return, De’Anthony Melton and Kristaps Porzingis this offseason. Niang gives Golden State another catch-and-shoot option to space the floor around Stephen Curry, while Williams adds a third ball handler who can spell the backcourt in shorter stretches. Neither deal is likely to change Golden State’s rotation hierarchy on paper, but both add insurance if injuries or foul trouble thin the wing and guard spots during the season.
The signings also land about a day after talks between the Lakers and Hawks around a potential Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade resurfaced without resolution, meaning Golden State’s frontcourt and wing math still has an unresolved piece even as its guard and forward depth fills in around the margins. With training camp weeks away, roster spots are tightening, and both Williams and Niang will be competing for regular rotation minutes rather than being handed them.
